St. Joseph’s Learning and Teaching is based on the Victorian Curriculum. The curriculum is the common set of knowledge and skills required by students for life-long learning, social development and active and informed citizenship. We have a focus on developing skills our students will need to be active members of a global 21st Century society. These areas include critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication.

The students develop these skills through an Inquiry approach to curriculum planning and implementation. This approach is designed to foster student engagement, curiosity and agency in their learning. We encourage the students to make connections between different learning areas, and to connect their learning to the wider and global community.  The students inquire into authentic concepts and use STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) principles and processes to apply their learning to real life situations.

St. Joseph’s has a comprehensive assessment schedule that enables the tracking of student progress over time. Assessment methods used by teachers across all curriculum areas allow for planning for effective teaching and learning at each student’s point of need. A particular focus is placed on catering for the needs of EAL (English as an Additional Language Learners) through assessment and the choice of appropriate strategies to use when teaching.

St Joseph’s is committed to using Digital Technology effectively and safely as a tool for learning. We are constantly updating our devices and the teacher knowledge and skills required to use the various technologies when engaging and supporting our students in their learning.

The staff at St. Joseph’s are always striving to deliver ‘best practice’ in education at our school. We implement strategies and  programs that are research based and proven to deliver quality learning to our students. We have a range of intervention programs in Literacy that strategically support student learning throughout their schooling. Learning Support Officers also assist with small group learning across the school.
